Our Mission

OPNFV reduces time to integrate and deploy NFV infrastructure and onboard VNF/CNFs for those who supply components and those who operationalize these platforms. The OPNFV community does this by implementing, testing and deploying tools for conformance and performance of NFV infrastructure, aligned with industry reference architectures.

OPNFV contains tools, scripts and automation as an enabler for the Cloud iNfrastructure Telco Taskforce (CNTT) Reference Implementation (RI), Reference Compliance (RC), the OPNFV Verification Program, and cross-project testing.

As an open source project, OPNFV is uniquely positioned to bring together the work of standards bodies, open source communities, and commercial suppliers to deliver a common NFVI stack for the industry. The reference stack is made up of a set of software artifacts and a methodology. By working closely with standards organizations and integrating components from upstream projects, the community is able to conduct performance and use case-based testing on a variety of solutions to ensure the platform’s suitability for NFV use cases. OPNFV works upstream with other open source communities to bring both contributions and learnings from its work directly to those communities in the form of blueprints, patches, and new code.

OPNFV builds NFV Infrastructure (NFVI) and Virtualized Infrastructure Management (VIM) by integrating components from upstream projects such as SDN controllers, cloud/container orchestration software, virtualization software and dataplane acceleration technologies. OPNFV that run on both Intel and ARM commercial and white-box hardware.

We’re fostering a diverse community of developers who bring different needs, ideas and knowledge to the table. This means faster time to market and stronger code. We hope you’ll join OPNFV as we work together to shape the game-changing networking transformation that is NFV.

GOALS FOR OPNFV
1

Develop an integrated and tested common NFVI software stack that can be used to build and test NFV functionality–accelerating the introduction of new products and services.
2

Include participation of leading end users to validate that OPNFV meets the needs of user community
3

Contribute to and participate in relevant open source projects that will be leveraged in the OPNFV platform; ensuring consistency, performance and interoperability among open source components
4

Establish an ecosystem for NFV solutions based on open standards and software to meet the needs of end users
5

Promote OPNFV as the preferred platform and community for an open source NFVI stack
